John Michael McMahon

Non Executive Chairman

John Michael McMahon is a South African-based former executive director, CEO and Chairman of major listed mining companies in South Africa. Prior to this he spent the first 20 years of his career as a mining project and consulting engineer, with an established track record of asset development. Michael was Chief Executive of Impala Platinum Holdings Limited from 1990 and Executive Chairman from 1993 through to 1998. He was an Executive Director of Gencor Limited from 1993 and Executive Chairman from 1997 through to 2002. He is a non-executive Director of Impala Platinum Holdings Limited and Murray & Roberts Holdings Limited, and, prior to joining CRG, was a non-executive Director of Gold Fields Limited from 1999 to 2008. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Glasgow University, is a registered Professional Engineer and holds an Engineer’s Certificate of Competency from the South African Department of Mines.

 

Sarel Johan du Toit

Chief Executive Officer

Sarel Johan du Toit, a chartered accountant by profession, was appointed Chief Executive Officer with effect from December 5, 2008, after serving as Financial Director for more than four months. He joined Central Rand Gold from global mining giant BHP Billiton. Based in Johannesburg, he headed up the South African and European Financial Shared Services for BHP Billiton plc, delivering all aspects of financial management and reporting. During his time at BHP Billiton he gained valuable insight into managing large-scale processes and mining operations. From 1996 to 2004, he worked for Standard Bank of South Africa, reporting to the Board on financial management, performance analysis and latterly coordinating Standard Bank’s three-year strategic financial forecast.

 

Patrick Malaza

Finance Director

Patrick Malaza, a qualified chartered accountant, has held senior finance management positions with several major companies over the past 22 years. In addition to managing large and complex finance teams, he has successfully led and completed projects in costing models, international accounting standards compliance, external annual and interim reporting, management reporting, structured/asset finance, infrastructure investments, information systems, procurement processes and systems improvements and internal controls.

 

Miklos Salamon

Non-Executive Director

Miklos Salamon started his career in 1975 at De Beers Consolidated Diamond Mines Limited and then continued through Anglo American Limited’s Gold Division and Shell Limited’s Coal Division before he joined the Gencor Group Limited in 1985. Until 1997, this included being Managing Director of Trans-Natal Coal Corporation, Executive Chairman of Samancor Limited (the world’s largest producer of Manganese and Chrome ores and alloys), Chairman of Columbus Stainless Steel unincorporated joint venture and Executive Director of Gencor Limited. He then became a founding Executive Director of Billiton plc and in 2003 was appointed an Executive Director of BHP Billiton plc until his retirement in October 2006. The latter period included global responsibility for the aluminium, copper and nickel businesses as well as the BHP Billiton Group’s health, safety, environment and community affairs, capital project services, purchasing and operating excellence. From September 2007, Miklos Salamon has been Co-President of a private equity fund, AMCI Capital, and also Chairman of New World Resources. He is also a non-executive director of Gem Diamonds B.V. Miklos holds a Bachelor of Science Mining Engineering degree from The University of the Witwatersrand as well as a Master of Business Administration degree from the London Business School, University of London. He also has Mine Manager and Mine Overseer certificates of competency from the South African Department of Mines.
